A New Milestone for MANNOL: 5 Years of In-House SCT ESTER Technology
From Aviation to Everyday Life – Now in Over 150 Products
Five years ago, MANNOL introduced its proprietary SCT ESTER Technology, originally developed for aviation and based on Group V base oils. Today, this advanced technology is found in over 150 MANNOL products, as well as in other brands within the SCT Group, covering more than 1,000 product variants. It has become a trusted solution in various fields—including road transport, motorsports, mechanical engineering, and extreme weather environments.

Continuous Improvement and Proven Results
Since its launch, the technology has undergone constant development. Extensive laboratory and field testing over the first five years has delivered the following results:
1. Reduced Wear and High Resilience
ASTM D4172 / D2783 tests show a reduction in the wear scar diameter to an average of 0.28 mm (versus 0.39–0.45 mm for mineral and PAO oils). The critical load was increased to 1100 N, compared to 820–900 N for conventional oils, confirming outstanding anti-wear properties even under extreme conditions.
2. Improved Oxidation Stability and Extended Service Life
PDSC testing (ASTM D6186) indicates much higher oxidation stability. The induction time (OIT) at 210°C increased by 20–30 minutes compared to standard Group III oils. This delivers dependable protection at high temperatures, especially in turbocharged and hybrid engines, and delays thermal breakdown, allowing for longer-lasting protection.
3. Lower Volatility and Reduced Oil Consumption
NOACK volatility (ASTM D5800) tests show the evaporation rate of ESTER formulations is reduced to 7.5–9%, compared to 11–13% for conventional Group III oils. This translates into lower oil consumption and more stable viscosity over extended operating periods.
