The engine oil specification MB 229.5 is issued by Mercedes-Benz for gasoline engines and diesel vehicles without diesel particulate filters. Appropriate models are:

• Petrol engines: M 122, 132, 266, 272, 270, 271, 272, 273, 274 (except: 213053, 213153), 276, 278, 281, 200.71 Citan
• Diesel engines without particulate filter: OM 640, 642, 646, 651

Mercedes-Benz approvals for diesel vehicles with diesel particulate filters are, for example, MB 229.51 and MB 229.52. The MB 229.5 specification applies to the viscosity classes SAE 0w30, SAE 5w30, SAE 0w40 and SAE 5w40.
